Double Bun Just For Fun

Double exposure top-bun shot from photographer Kathy Lo as featured on Urban Outfitters’ blog. Pretty.

I like that the bun in the larger of the two portraits is off-center with ends left loose on the side. It seems like a simple updo. Though, top buns in general are pretty hard to do wrong. I like them when my hair is a couple days dirty. Good for height. Here’s my style trial {Trend Run: Top Bun} and Jan’s {Jan in March: Day 2}.

Inside scoop from Oloffbeauty

Oloffbeauty, the sponsor of the Barex Italiana’ s hair team for New York Fashion Week, just sent us some fun press about the hair created for Monique Lhuillier’s show: Buns, braided with black satin. Simple, lovely and …. it kind of reminds me of a modern Scrunchie (yep, went there). My list of hair tricks to try is growing by the hour.

Photos, videos, how-to’s and products, here ya go!

(Word is they’ll have step-by-step how-tos in the next couple of days; I’ll let you know!)

THE LOOK

The collection had a strong Chinese warrior theme, so I decided to create a graphic, high-shine knotted sculpture on the top of the models’ heads. I really wanted the style to seem more like a piece of fabric than hair. I didn’t want anything soft or realistic.”  Rudi Lewis, Barex Style Team Leader.

THE PRODUCTS

Hair was sprayed with Barex Gloss Hairspray, divided into sections and pulled up to the crown and tied into little ponytails. These were soaked with Barex Volumizzante Spray and Barex Tricolife Serum and then braided with black satin. Fabric-hair braid was then piled up and pinned in place – finished with Gloss Hairspray.

Bun Run

Earlier this week, theCut covered Fashion Week’s bun trend:

We saw it at the twentyten’s fall 2010 fashion presentation too, though they interpreted it with synthetic hair and leather swim caps.

What do you think? Work-day wearable, or weekend-only? Reminds me of the doll hair idea.

I’d like to see this look done for nighttime. Maybe add a headband or some feathers. I’ll give it a run here soon and report back. If you beat me to it – send los fotos!

Happy Thursday!

Grrreat report on 2010 hair trends with bIg beautiful photos, styles’ history and inspiration galleries. Covers cuts, colors and styles. {By Daniel P Dykes for Fashionising.com}

It includes some looks you saw coming (braids and, yep, a reiteration of the top-bun trend) and others you may not have (1940s glam). But hey hey, we spotted that slicked/gelled/wet look on our NYFW runarounds!
