All-Star Review

Check out this fantastic review. Love these!

Crystal says: Amazing Flat Iron!! Worth Every Penny!!!

“Okay, WOW!!! I just received my Solia flat iron yesterday. I have two daughters. I did their hair first, and seriously, WOW!!!!! My older daughter has very thick, curly hair, and her hair looks and feels like silk after I used this on her. My younger daughter has less thick hair, but very long and still fairly thick. I did her hair as well, and after sleeping on it last night and twisting and turning as much as she does, her hair still looked amazing this morning!! I did my own hair this morning with my new Solia, and it looks better than it ever has. I never got these results with my previous flat iron, a very popular brand. I am amazed at how well this flat iron works. On my daughters and myself, I shampooed, conditioned, added a heat protectant serum, blow dried until about 90% dry, flat ironed with the Solia, and the results are just amazing! My hair feels as good as it looks, and I am sold on the Solia!!! VERY HAPPY with this product. Worth every penny!!! BTW, I only needed to lightly touch up both my girls this morning before school. Literally, less than one minute touchup for each girl, and they were ready to go. Get this flat iron!!!! AWESOME!!!”

The very luck object of Crystal’s affection is the Solia Tourmaline Ceramic Ion Flat Iron (1-1/4″) plus free heat proof pouch.

Great for frizzies, plus makes your hair SMELL Great!!!!!

I have been using this product for about a year. I first bought it to make my frizzies calm down and it does that. But everyone always comments on how good my hair smells too!! It does smell soooo good.

I spray it on wet or dry, it doesn’t matter, it makes my hair look so healthy ALL day long!! I ABSOLUTELY WOULD RECOMMEND EVERYONE TRY THIS!!!

And there you have it.

Waxing Poetic – Parissa Wax Strips Review

A couple of weeks ago, our buyers blessed the office with a bunch of fun new product samples. I scooped up a box of Parissa Wax Strips and promptly forgot about them.

I’ve never been a big fan of at-home hair removal. I have a razor, it works and sometimes I’ll treat myself to a spa trip. I’ve never tried epilators, sugaring or electrolysis. And, I’ve never assumed I had the skill, confidence or need to run any professional plays at home. There are experts for a reason and I am not one.

Though, not a week goes by that I don’t at some point wish there existed a quick, simple route to smoothness that didn’t co$t the time or funds that a salon trip does.

(Reminds me of Jillian’s question about frizz: With all of us so-wanting a solution, and it being the 21st century, how do we not have an answer for this hair woe?)

This weekend I opened the box of wax strips with no intention of actually using them – I was only curious. What is a wax strip, anyway?

Had I intended to use the product, I would have proceeded in typical Rachelle fashion (skipped the directions) but since I was ‘only curious’, I read the instructions.

And so began my pleasant discoveries:

  1. There’s no heating, spreading, painting or pouring of wax involved.
  2. Each strip is actually two. When you pull apart the plastic, both sides are usable. Double the fun. (If it’s hard to visualize, here’s a photo from Parissa):

  1. Every strip can be used more than once. (Just repeat until it’s used up.)
  2. Wax ingredients are pine resin, castor oil and beesax.
  3. Every kit includes Azulene Oil (“the active ingredient in chamomile” and vitamin e) for removing wax stickiness, soothing skin and preventing ingrowns.

So: there’s more in the kit than I thought, it’s easier to use than I expected, and I can pronounce all of the ingredients? How could I not?

Test results: LOVE. I’m totally hooked. I used a few strips and have not a single complaint except that I didn’t discover these sooner. It was as easy as Parissa promised. I was able to use each strip several times. And, um, they actually worked. (That was honestly my biggest doubt.) The azulene oil was light and gentle and the whole process was simple and clean. Do as little or as much as you like: underarms or bikini line in a couple of minutes – or full legs, face – Parissa makes kits for all kinds of wants:

Legs & Body | Face & Bikini | Assorted & Sensitive | Men’s and sugars

One caveat: These are not for those of you with any fear of self-inflicting some price-of-beauty pain. (Though I’ll say there was much less sting than I’ve had at any salon. I’ll give it a 2.5 on a 1 to 5 scale where you could yawn through a 1 and a 5 makes you say Unkle.)

In the spirit of yesterday’s review, I already told my bestie about these and she already bought them.

Any other takers? Any questions? Any smooth-getting secrets I should know about? Last time I asked for reader recommendations, you told me about co-washing and changed my life. I’m seated and ready for the next revelation.

Testing a Lash Enhancer: Week 4 – That’s a Wrap

Today concludes Charlene’s test of the Osmotics FNS Nutrilash Lash & Brow Enhancer!

Charlene says: My lashes definitely feel thicker and stronger. I’m not sure if I notice any change in the length … what do readers think? This system is meant to be used for two months. I think I might do it! If my lashes are more resilient after four weeks, it makes sense that they’d be able to grow longer in two months. Thanks for tracking the progress and I’m looking forward to winner Cristy’s review!

Clean Right: Frederic Fekkai Shampoo & Conditioner

Sunday is my day to do chores, deep clean my apartment and prep for the week. I like to start with everything fresh and in order, and that of course includes my hair (which is usually a party leftover from Saturday night).

Because my hair is curly and a bit dry, and I rarely brush it, it doesn’t get any natural-oil love (even though I also don’t wash it often – I sound like I mess but I promise I’m not). To compensate, I used to use a heavy-duty, moisturizing shampoo that specially targeted curly hair. It was intended to control frizz and super-saturate dry strands. Sounds like exactly my gig, right?

Wrong.

One of the best hair tips I’ve ever received was: Use a lighter-weight shampoo, something that’s cleansing rather than moisturizing. Wash more than once if necessary, but get hair super clean and *then, you can use a heavy-duty, moisturizing conditioner.

Magic. My hair completely changed. I got shinier, springy curls (not frizzy ones) and wasn’t adding a weighty shampoo to already product-logged locks.

So, this weekend I did the deep clean. First with a clarifying shampoo and the second time with a curl-conscious one. (I alternate between that and one that’s color-conscious.) Then, I conditioned with curl conscious conditioner. (Next step in the routine that I’ve yet to explore is hair masks and deep conditioners. Usually, I save this for salon visits.) I love Frederic Fekkai products because they smell great (apples in the clarifying shampoo and the conditioner smells like a creamsicle) and they lather well. Fact or fiction, lather convinces me that a shampoo is doing its job.

The recipe - (brand-biased but oh don’t you worry, I’ll be branching out here and testing a-plenty):

Do you have a magic concoction? I want to try Davines next …

Let me know if you’ve got any secrets or any burning urges for my next review.
