HairJunky at Pipino Nolita Salon

Yesterday, Ric Pipino invited HairJunky to his NYC salon. Charlene (one of our fab buyers and who you may remember from the lash enhancer product test) and I were only planning to spend a couple of hours there but the hair-doing just didn’t quit and we ended up staying all day.

Mission: Get to know Ric, scout out the space and learn about his product line, Revolution in Cut.

Status: Accomplished, very.

Report: Some sneak peek photos below. Videos, interview and tips-tricks-whatever-else-you-want-to-know to come.

Spoils: I got a Brazilian Blowout. Yeah, sort of spontaneous but it was at Ric’s behest, and now I can compare it to the Keratin treatment firsthand. Anything you want to know about it? I’m *sure some of you have had the treatment. Let’s talk about Brazilian Blowouts, shall we?

I’ll work up a full recount  for you – photos and video included of course.

Hope you’re all happy, healthy and having great hair days. Yes?

x, R

Waiting is worth it in this room.

Plus a very lovable jewelry case. Pamela Love beside Vintage Gucci Goblets …

HairJunky in the chair. Ric Pipino on deck.

“Oh, you know, can you give me a cut that like, styles itself?”

“And, this is what I have to work with, eh?” (Quotes mine. ;) )

He says: How about one that compliments your face shape instead?

Charlene’s turn! Ric says: Too much weight on top.

And then: lightning-fast trim time. (aka “pointing”)

Charlene’s After:

On the way to my After:

So straight and shiny.

P.S. Check out who made the chairs.

Rita Hazan's Superb Online Salon

Celebrity NYC hairstylist and salon owner Rita Hazan just announced a new “interactive digital salon experience” (aka website). It’s um amazing. Beautiful, full-screen photos of the salon take you from Reception to the “Boss Lady’s” office, with stops at the stylists’ stations, dryer lounge and color room where you can watch a video of Rita making mix-magic.

The Experience also includes How-To videos, Trend news and Rita’s bridal portfolio.

The mesh of media and the expansiveness of the images makes it feel refreshing, smart and new. I think it’s fabulous dahling. What about you?

Jan's Makeover Haircut from Sally Hershberger

Ta da! Hope you enjoy … we sure did!

Trend Run Rachelle: Keratin Treatment

Hi everyone! So sorry for yesterday’s missing Trend Run feature. The appointment at Sally H.’s for Jan’s makeover turned into a full day of cuts, colors and then an impromptu Keratin treatment for yours truly. Given the fact that my hair isn’t allowed near water, elastics, bobby pins or products for the next 72 hours, I’ll have to postpone Trend Run until next week. Bummer .. but! now I can give you a first-hand report on Keratin.

Now, why in the world would I OK a Keratin treatment on the fly? 1. As a fearless hair-scout, it was my duty, and 2. Sally Hershberger said I should.

As a consumer, I didn’t think I wanted it because I like my natural texture – especially after seeing what it’s capable of since starting Trend Run.

(Another trick Sally mentioned is applying a Keratin treatment to only sections of hair, weaving it throughout for a more subtle change.)

So, for the first three days my hair will be stick-straight, then I’ll wash it (promise not to wait a week this time) and we’ll have a look-see at what one of the hottest new hair trends on the market is all about.

I captured the application on video, took notes on brands, quizzed Sally’s crew and will update you on the process throughout. (4 – 6 weeks in all.)

Check out a first-day photo and the bonus color, below. I actually told the colorist (Erin Bogart – brilliant) that I loved her.

There’s a play-by-play of yesterday’s events on Twitter (@NYHairJunky). I’m also editing photos and video, will post por supuesto.
