Hey hey, check out who’s going to be on Live! with Regis and Kelly … our friend Oscar Blandi!
(applause)

Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s 9 year old daughter, Willow (Camille Reign) just released her first single on Jay-Z’s record lable, Roc Nation.
It’s an elementary school set Crayola palette graffiti and ground shaking stomp of in-your-face fun. I’m half charmed and half afraid. Girl’s a force. Cool lip crystals though. What do you think?
Busy Scissors, Redken’s new video game for Nintendo Wii and DS is out this month. In it, you get to play star-stylist to clients in a Hollywood based salon. It’s a race to fame that you win by earning points successfully performing the latest cut, color or style trends.
I found it interesting that “each salon technique was demonstrated and filmed by stylists from the Redken team before it was re-created in 3D and designed as a mini-game.” {stylelist}
(Think they used the NVIDIA graphics chip we saw back in March?)
According to Senior Director of Interactive for Redken, Rachel Weiss: “We are excited to share the behind-the-scenes salon professional experience with our clients via Busy Scissors. [It’s] a new way for consumers to connect and engage with Redken by allowing them to interact directly with Redken products in the virtual salon.”
Will you play it???
One of the articles I read about it mentioned the fun of being able to try a different look every day without having to commit to a cut or color. If you could try any look tomorrow, what would it be?
I think I’d go for a platinum blond pixie.
If you need any help choosing your alter ego, check out New York Daily News’ H’wood hair chameleons photo gallery:

It’s 82 pages strong, Rihana takes two slides and hey, who remembers when Gwen Stefani had braces?!
Have some fun with your hair this weekend and I’ll see you next week for whatever’s next and new in the ‘do business. Cheers!
Stylist Jean Marc of Pipino Nolita salon invited us backstage for a How-To do the ‘do he and Ric Pipino created for the Rosa Cha fashion show at New York Fashion Week. See!

Hair-ventures. What do you think? Have you tried Revolution In Cut yet? What are your thoughts on the concept of products that target your cut? And, will you wear the top chignon?
Video number one of a couple from our day at Pipino Nolita salon learning How-To. Ric shows Charlene how to style with the Long Layers products from his Revolution in Cut line.

The whirlwind that is New York Fashion Week attracted trendsetters from all across the globe and HairJunky was there to scout out the newest hairstyles and how-tos for spring. From backstage and the front row, here are a few of our favorite finds and snapshots.
Top chignons (not to be confused with top buns) at Rosa Cha, by Ric Pipino and Jean Marc of Pipino Nolita and the Revolution in Cut product line. Yes, the dynamic duo from our salon visit a couple of weeks ago. (We shot a bunch of video that day that I’m still working on. One of the clips is uploading as we speak. Stay tuned!)
Ric and Jean did the hair for the Rosa Cha show and then alice + olivia immediately afterward and we were lucky enough to tag along.

Another highlight of the week was Logan Neitzel’s presentation, which I actually helped produce. (You may remember him from Project Runway?) He and I have mutual hairstylist friends from Gene Juarez Salons in Seattle and the whole crew of them (6 total) flew out to NY to style the show. They brought pre cut and colored wigs that they could fit on the girls and then style quickly. Clever, I thought. And it made for lighter suitcases. The models liked the idea less though – an hour into the show I had to sneak them backstage one at a time to snip the elastic on the inside of the wig to loosen it.
Bonus: The stylists left us with a duffel bag full of products.

P.S. I’d wear everything Neitzel makes, but my favorite piece to date are his leather epaulettes. To me, they serve the same purpose as the messy bangs and ponytail look: add a little toughness to something soft or polished.
And if I had to stand behind one trend from the week though, it’d be the 70s hair (and clothes, makeup, accessories …). The best thing about that decade is that the there was a hairstyle for every hair texture. Curly? Go big with it and embrace an afro. Wavy? Try feathered layers ala Farrah Faucet. Straight? We all know that one: center part, long and sleek and if you’re really in the mood, try a headband around your crown.

Phew Fashion Week. Back to business as usual. Have a great weekend!

Here at Folica, we’re still talking about dry shampoo. This time, the brand on our brains is Batiste. Buyers Lauren, Charlene and I took a trip to Union Square today with our Flip Cam to visit the Batiste Dry Shampoo tent for some demos. The lovely Batiste hairstylist, Christine, demonstrated how to use the product, leaving all three of us with super fresh hair. Lauren and Charlene both said that their hair was a bit flat today, but once the Batiste was in they noticed more volume. My hair, on the other hand, wasn’t necessarily what I would consider flat, but the shampoo definitely left my hair feeling refreshed. Thanks, Batiste!
Action:
Lauren, Charlene and I all chose the Blush scent. It was a bit flowery, but not too overpowering. The Original scent was very basic and simple, but also smelled nice. I haven’t personally tried the Tropical scent, but I’ve heard great things. All are definitely great options if you need a quick hair fix, and they’re super affordable! If you’ve tried it, let me know how you like!

Tis the season for flowy beach hair, but making this style look effortless and natural (unless you’re blessed with loose waves and a beachfront cabana) can be difficult. I’ve been playing around with ways to accomplish this look on my not-so-cooperative hair, and I’ve come to a conclusion: The only foolproof method, for me at least, is a curling iron. Yes, more work than desired, but the results are better than anything else I’ve tried. (A waver is also fun to play around with for a similar look.)
I came across a great tutorial on a Free People’s Youtube channel for creating beachy waves with a curling iron. (Their models always have great waves.)
I’m also dying to try Blow’s Beach Blow texturizing mist.
It has sea salt in it, to give the fresh-out-of-the-ocean look.
I’m sure you all have some great beach hair tips – anyone want to share ?

There’s so much going on at HairJunky right now, I wanted to recap so’s we’re all in the know and on the same page. Though this being a blog, we kind of always are, right? (courtesy laugh?)
1. One more day to enter the Dry Shampoo Contest. UPDATE: Contest ends at 6 pm EST today, 6/16.
2. There’s a great conversation going about washing with conditioner in the comments on the Washing with Conditioner, Gel and the end of a Keratin Treatment post. This is a hot topic! We’ll need to dig into it deeper – maybe try different conditioners and on different hair types of course. I’d love to hear more about what you think, and what you know. Some reader insights so far:

(HairJunky note: Lorraine Massey is “The Original Curly Girl” and co-owner of Devachan Salon – a curly girl’s haven. Deva products are 100% sulfate free and formulated to hydrate hair and encourage natural texture. Deva on Folica.)
And there you have an example of why I’m so excited to have you HairJunky readers; this knowledge is golden!
Edify is the word of the day. (No really: Merriam-Webster.com.) Actually, this morning our Web Analyst Bayla emailed me a great one. She said, “Very HairJunky word for you: Coiftastrophe.” (Later, she confessed to discovering it on the Fug girls’ blog. We won’t tell.)
3. Q & A from hair shoppers debating between flat irons and a CHI Brazilian Styling Set, the dry shampoo video with Oscar Blandi, the VIP Reviewers program, and the Prom Hair StyleOff Contest ends tomorrow. So, let’s wrap with a prom photo. Which is so hair-perfect that if Folica had a mantle, this would totally be on it:
And, it’s only Tuesday.
